Earle Forrest collection, 1881-1971

Earle R. Forrest (1883-1969) was a writer and historian from Pennsylvania who spent much of his young-adult life exploring the western United States in the early 1900s while working as a cowboy. The bulk of the collection relates to cowboys, cowboy life, Navajo and Hopi people, and the Old West in general. Predominantly photographic, the collection functions as an autobiography of his life from 1900-1968.

Louis Akin (1868-1913) was a painter famous for his images of southwest. In 1903 Akin was hired by the Sante Fe Railway to paint images of the Hopi Indians and the Grand Canyon.
